Facebook: Zuckerberg Reassures Ad Boycott Will End Soon Enough

As the number of companies and top brands boycotting Facebook spirals, the colourful CEO of the globally popular social media platform, Mark Zuckerberg has reassured that adverts boycott will end soon enough.

A study from the University of Oxford recently argues that an immediate negative impact could result from the boycott, particularly in the retail sector. Various major brands, notably Coca-Cola, Adidas, PlayStation, and Starbucks are withdrawing advertising from Facebook in order to pressure the social network into taking a stronger stand against hate speech.

Mark Zuckerberg said he believed advertisers currently boycotting will be back on the platform ‘soon enough.’ In a town hall meeting, he said the action was more of a ‘reputational and partner issue’ than economic, adding that the company was ‘not going to change policies or approach on anything because of a threat to a small percent of revenue.’

Facebook has reportedly been barraged with a gale of criticisms recently, following its decision to allow controversial posts by President Donald Trump to stay up, and its approach towards tackling hate speech..
